IF SOMETHING IS SERIOUS ENOUGH TO GET MR. BEAN TO START TALKING, WE SHOULD PROBABLY START LISTENING.2/15/2021 Mr. Bean is a man of few words. In fact, when when Mr. Bean speaks, it is generally only a few mumbled words which are in a comically low-pitched voice. But much to the shock and surprise of the world, Mr. Bean broke his silence to weigh in on the danger of cancel-culture.
Cancel culture is eroding freedom of speech and is me fearful for the future", said Mr. Bean in his interview with Radio Times. "It's important that we're exposed to a wide spectrum of opinion, but what we have now is the digital equivalent of the medieval mob roaming the streets looking for someone to burn. So it is scary for anyone who's a victim of that mob, and it fills me with fear about the future." When pressed about his concern about being cancelled for expressing his dissenting opinion on the matter, Mr. Bean simply said "We can't be afraid of losing our voice. We can't allow those who are willing to use their influence, power, and financial means to silence those of us who are simply trying to live freely." We reached out to Banijay Group, who owns the rights to Mr. Bean, and asked them how they feel about Mr. "Let's just say all options are on the table, including pulling the plug on Mr. Bean", said Marco Bassetti Banijay's CEO. "Silence is violence, unless of course you are using your voice to criticize progressive group think. The world has waited over (30) years to finally hear what Mr. Bean has to say, but if he's going to use his voice to perpetuate hatred, bigotry, and the anti-Semitic rhetoric of the alt-right NAZIs than he's leaving us with no other reasonable choice than to cancel him and to have him quickly and completely disappeared." Banjay Group is the largest international content producer and distributor in the world, with over 120 production companies across 22 territories, and a multi-genre catalogue containing over 95,000 hours of original programming. "We honestly don't like silencing dissenters, especially when they continue to bring us the kind of revenue and financial benefits Mr. Bean has over the years. He's a beloved national hero with a very diverse fan base. However, we have a very clear zero-tolerance policy when it comes to hate and anti-Semitism. All dissenting opinions will be suppressed, no matter the cost." "The problem we have online is that an algorithm decides what we want to see, which ends up creating a simplistic, binary view of society," said Mr. Bean. "It becomes a case of either you're with us or against us. And if you're against us, you deserve to be canceled" It's strange that on one hand Mr. Bean seems to get it and yet on the other hand he seems so confused. He literally acknowledged, with his own mouth, that people deserve to be cancelled and then he seemed to contradict his own assertion by implying that cancel-culture is somehow morally imprudent. The strange paradox is hard to understand but what we can tell you for sure is this: those being cancelled have no excuse. They know the outcome when choosing to speak out and perpetuate conservative points-of-view. If people make the intentional decision to not toe the progressive line, they have no reason to be surprised when the thought police turn them in to the cancel-culture gestapo. |
