As it seems to go with all scanals, once the first victim is brave enough to come forward, other victims gain the courage they need to come out of hiding. So it is with Dr. Seuss.
In the wake of the recent news--reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution--that Dr. Seuss Enterprises is ceasing to publish (6) of his books due to racist images and stereotypes, another victim came forward to speak of Dr. Seuss's bigotries. "He's a gender-binary, one-of-a-kindery, closeted transphobic racist", said Daisy-Head Davie (formally known as Daisy-Head Mayzie). "Though he seemed gentle and sweet, you never did meet, the TRUE bigot behind all those funny faces." Daisy-Head Davie went on to express (in the poetic way he has always spoken) the harm which had been caused to him, as a frequent character in Dr. Seuss's books. "I was always portrayed as a cute little girl, but I knew deep down in my soul. I was really a boy, and although a bit coy, my feelings should not be ignored." Davie went on to discuss how Dr. Seuss didn't feel it was right for him to make such life altering decisions at such a young age. It was his professional (he's not a real doctor) opinion that children are often confused, especially as they're getting used to their bodies and identities. Often times, when children are given the power to make such drastic and life-altering decisions at an early age, they have a tendency to regret it later in life. Unfortunately, by then, the emotional and physical scars are often irreversible. "This type of bullying was surprising to me", said Davie. "But what was worse is that it led me to believe, that the feelings which consumed me would furthermore doom me, to a life hopelessness and misery." We reached out to Dr. Seuss for comment, but it turns out he is dead and could not provide us with his perspective or reaction to Davie's assertions. Therefore, we are led to believe that the author, who is unable to provide evidence to the contrary, was indeed a racist, a transphobe, and a shameful gender binarist. To those who have been hurt by his hatred, we morn with you. To those who still consider Dr. Seuss to be a friend of people, we despise you and will shift our full efforts behind ensuring you are cancelled from society. |
